Hello, radio world! As I officially begin my new role at Cougar Radio, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Destiny Anderson, and I’m a Junior studying Mass Communications and Design at Misericordia University. I started my college career as a biology major; although the topic is interesting, I did some soul searching and accepted that my true passion has been looking me in the face all along. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved the arts in every form, but music has always been the most fond in my heart. I hope to combine the business world with the world of the arts in a career, helping others bring the creative process to life while also helping bring their works to the public for enjoyment, as I’ve spent my entire life enjoying. After switching majors, on my first day of Communications classes, I immediately asked my professors about our radio station on campus. A semester later, I am now Music Director at Cougar Radio.
While I try to keep my doors open to a variety of music and appreciate the artistic value of many genres, I generally dabble the most in alternative, indie, and rock music, broadly put. If I had to pick a singular favorite band, I have to pay homage to the NEPA hometown heroes and a band I’ve been a fan of for the greater part of my life – Breaking Benjamin. Other bands that highlight my music taste are bands like Jimmy Eat World, Andrew McMahon (Jack’s Mannequin, etc.), A Silent Film, Cold War Kids, Passion Pit, Paper Route, The National, From Indian Lakes, The Gaslight Anthem… Unsurprisingly, I could go on for ages with this list.
As for why I love music, that is another topic I could go on for ages about. The versatility of music and its applications is amazing to me. It can be used to make another work of art even better and more impactful, such as movie scores or musicals; it can make a night out unforgettable, with live music being one of my favorite things; or it can be anything from an enjoyable pastime to a crutch or guide in your hardest times. Music is one of the most human and real experiences in life, to me. In that human aspect, one of the best things about music to me is all the stellar people I’ve connected with through it, whether they be fans, musicians, or others in the music industry. Music transcends barriers and unifies like nothing else can.
It’s my pleasure to be a part of the Cougar Radio team, I’m looking forward to a great semester!
