The Time I Met We the Kings

Before I say anything about my experience, I have to send out huge thank yous.

Thank you to my advisor, Dan. You hired me, you gave me this opportunity.
Thank you to Misericordia for bringing the band to campus.
Thank you to Mary and Gabbie and Alison for being by my side during this opportunity.
AND THANK YOU TO WE THE KINGS FOR AGREEING TO AN INTERVIEW.

We the Kings came to Mis and it was awesome.

I have been a fan of WTK since 2008. I have seen them at Warped Tour, I have seen them with bands like Boys Like Girls, The Maine, All Time Low. I have seen them more times than I can count on my fingers. Once I even gave the merch guy a penguin named Cindy to give to Travis, because I heard it was his favorite animal.

…I know.

So getting the opportunity to sit down and talk with Travis and Coley was so rad.

Here is what I learned.

It is possible to love something so much that it becomes a part of you. Travis said that songwriting was in his bones (or something like that).

Baby wipe showers on tour ARE REAL.

WTK does not eat ramen noodles on tour.

Travis loves pizza and hates coffee.

Coley loves to eat tortilla chips on tour.

Travis loves working out. And I of course said that I do too. I even joked that I live in the gym!

Travis is a hopeless romantic. That’s why he writes so many love songs.

Also, surprisingly enough, he said inspiration is easy when it comes to new songs. He said that writing music is like working a muscle. The more you write, the easier it gets. He also said that he writes when inspiration comes to him, that he doesn’t go searching for it.

Coley is going to be a father! Congratulations. Travis called him the “little King”.

Uh…Travis met Zooey Deschanel. She liked his dog. How lucky is that?

How lucky is it that I was given this opportunity?

The first of many.

My favorite part of the concert was when WTK played “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World. Travis explained that that song was the one that inspired him to join a band, because “the girl’s faces were melting”.

“The Middle” is my favorite song ever. So thank you.

If you’d like to know more about the concert, let me know and we can talk about it!
