The Great Gatsby

Hey Guys,

Today  I watched the Great Gatsby movie for the first time.
I have read the book, though it was not fresh in my memory.
I was excited to watch the movie and curious to see how it would turn out.

I won’t describe the plot or give anything away but for the most part I liked it.

I did not like the soundtrack.
WHY ARE JAY Z’S SONGS IN THE GREAT GATSBY?
No. No. No.

I was fine with Lana Del Ray’s ‘Young and Beautiful’ when it was sung in a 20’s style.

In fact if all of the songs fit the era, I would have no complaints.

As Ryan Bassil puts it, “…drinking bourbon with Gatsby while listening to Jay-Z sounds like audio blasphemy”.

I understand that this movie was made for the modern day audience. It didn’t work for me and I didn’t like the movie as much as I could have.
Soundtracks are everything.
As I have mentioned in previous blogs – they are the backbone to films.
Scary movies wouldn’t be as scary without the “DUN DUN DUN HERE COMES TROUBLE” music playing.

Jay-Z was playing during the party scenes. Yes, you would find that at modern parties but if someone now would have a 20-30’s themed party they wouldn’t play Jay-Z.

I wish they would release a new soundtrack for The Great Gatsby.

Let me know what you think!

Best,
Nicole
