I Missed the Grammys

I like to know what’s going on in the world. I read the news, check on social media, listen in on what others are saying…but I did not watch the Grammys this year. And yes, I do regret it. Ryan Lewis and Macklemore, Madonna and Queen Latifah did something amazing. 34 couples were married on the Grammys. Both gay and straight. Latifah officiated it in the middle of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love”, and Madonna sang, “Open Your Heart” once Latifah said, “you are now married couples.”

I just watched the video and I have goosebumps. I ugly-cried watching it and I’m not ashamed to admit it. (Romance makes me do that). I’m almost at a loss for words, but I’ll try my best to say what I need to. THIS IS HUGE. Not only because of my beliefs, but because when has this been done before? It hasn’t, at least not to my knowledge.

This quote comes from hollywoodreporter.com:

“All things are possible on the Grammy Awards,” the producer said when previously asked about the Madonna appearance, later adding: “It’s what we do, one of the trademarks of this show, what I’d like to believe separates the Grammys from these other shows. You see artists do things that they just don’t do anywhere else.”

I’m still speechless. This is a beautiful, beautiful thing and it will be one for the history books.

Here is a list, provided by the Huffington Post, of other celebrity allies (supporters of gay rights):

Beyonce, Willie Nelson, Snoop Lion (Dogg), Lena Dunham, Susan Olsen, Jay Z, Anne Hathaway, Brad Pitt, Kelly Osbourne, Carrie Underwood, Cyndi Lauper, Clint Eastwood, Miley Cyrus, Sean Penn, Pink, John Stewart, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and so many more.

Please, if you missed the performance, watch it here.

Same Love- Grammy’s Wedding
