Due to the midsemester fall break, I will not be previewing College Football because all colleges in the back mountain area are having their bye weeks this week. I will still preview High School and NFL though.
High School football we have a big battle of the unbeatens as the Abington Heights Comets (6-0) will take on the Scranton Prep Cavaliers. I haven’t heard too much from either team because they play outside the Wyoming Valley Conference where I’m used to covering, but teams are local, or Scranton Prep is at least. Scranton Prep, the preseason favorite in LFC Division I, has controlled both sides of the ball during its 6-0 start. The Cavaliers have three shutouts and have scored more than 40 points in five straight games. Abington Heights, also 6-0, has limited opponents to 32 points, while posting four shutouts. The Comets are averaging 31.0 points per game.
The National Football League has the 5-0 New Orleans Saints taking on the 4-1 New England Patriots in a battle of two future Hall of Fame Quarterbacks in Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Brady recently ended his streak of 52 games with at least one touchdown pass, two games shy of Drew Brees’s record of 54 games. Drees so far this season has thrown for 12 TD’s and 4 INT’s while Brady has thrown for only 7 TD’s and 3 INT’s, but bare in mind he’s still working with a young group of receivers and running backs around him and a defense that has not had elite status since the Patriots 2000’s dynasty years. Both defenses are very close though, with the Saints being ranked 11 overall and the Patriots ranked 16, so look for this game to go either way.
That’s about all I have for this week. College students, have a safe fall break while everyone else have a good weekend.
