Fisher’s Football Fix

Are you ready for some football!?

This week in High School the Dallas Mountaineers at 0-5 will take on the 1-4 Pittston Area Patriots. The records don’t indicate much, and neither team at this point will qualify for the District title tournament at season’s end, but the Mountaineers are searching for their first win of the season and this could be it. Dallas is coming off a 21-7 loss to the Williamsport Millionaires in which Mountaineers quarterback Justin Mucha only went 4-10 passing for 15 yards and one intercerption and the team as a whole rushed for 53 yards. The Patriots are coming off a 26-7 loss to the Hazleton Area Cougars but showed much more promise in that game accumulating 178 yards.

This week the King’s College Monarch’s come to Misericordia to take on the Cougars in a battle of the beatens, meaning both teams sit at 0-3, but somebody will earn their first win of the season and for the Cougars it could potentially be their first win in the program’s two year existence. The Monarch’s are coming off a 49-28 loss in which they totaled 369 yards of offense with 298 of them being through the air behind quarterback Tyler Hartranft who went 13-26 with 243 yards as well as one touchdown to one interception. Backup quarterback Tom Hehre completed a 55 yard pass in the game as well. The Cougars’ offense was brought down to Earth against Wilkes in their 33-14 loss accumulating only 189 yards of offense. Quarterback Jeff Puckett, however had a much better day passing going 10-17 for 86 yards with one touchdown. Something’s gotta give with these two teams, but who will it be coming away with the W?

In regards to the National Football League look no further than the Thursday night matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns. That’s right, the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns. Both teams sit at 2-2 and are starting to become two of the most watched and talked about teams in the American Football Conference. The Bills possess the second fastest offense in the NFL behind the Denver Broncos led by rookie quarterback EJ Manual and his plethora of talented guys on offense such as wide receiver Steve Johnson and perhaps the best running back tandem in the NFL CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson. New Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer has given new life to the team going 2-0 as the starter since Brandon Weeden went down and the team traded star running back Trent Richardson. One of these team will possess a winning record, for the Bills it will be the first time since 2011 they were above .500 and for the Browns the first time since 2007.

Enjoy your weekend everyone, make sure you catch a good game yourself.
