Billboard Hot 100 Chart- Top 5 Review

Hey Guys.

I’m hearing a lot of talk about Miley Cyrus these days (still!)
and  right now she has the number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
I thought it would be fun to briefly discuss the top 5 songs and artists.
Here we go!

#1 Wrecking Ball- Miley Cyrus.
Yes or No: yes
Opinion: I really like this song. The music video is weird, and it distracts listeners from actually paying attention to the lyrics. All they can see (literally) is Miley naked on a wrecking ball.
Lyrics: “I put you high up in the sky
And now, you’re not coming down
It slowly turned, you let me burn
And now, we’re ashes on the ground”

#2 Roar, Katy Perry
Yes or No: yes
Opinion: I adore Katy Perry. She’s cute and quirky, and yes, I did see her documentary. Her cat is named Kitty Purry. Anyways, the song. It’s catchy and inspirational. I tend to like a lot of her hits, except for E.T. That one was too weird.
Lyrics: “You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now”

#3 Royals- Lorde
Yes or No: meh (in the middle)
Opinion: I don’t love this song. I will admit that it’s catchy and I do sing along but… it just doesn’t sit right with me. Also, thanks to my friend, I think she’s singing, “you can call me green bean” instead of “queen bee”. Please notice how bad the lyrics are. What does that even mean? But I just found out the singer is ONLY sixteen. That makes me appreciate the song a little more.
Lyrics: “But every song’s like:
Gold teeth
Grey Goose
Tripping in the bathroom
Bloodstains
Ball gowns
Trashing the hotel room
We don’t care, we’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams”

#4 Wake me up, Avicii
Yes or No: yes
Opinion: I couldn’t remember what song this was immediately. I really enjoy this song. The artist has a raw voice and the song sounds good. It also has a relatable message to it.
Lyrics:”I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don’t have any plans
Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is the prize”

#5 Blurred lines, Robin Thicke
Yes or No: no
Opinion: When I hear this song, I cringe. The first time I heard it, I would always change the radio station to something else. It’s got a good beat and they sing, “hey hey hey!” it sounds nice. But I can’t help but think about the controversy behind it every time I hear it. Also, he sings, “what rhymes with hug me?” NOTHING RHYMES WITH HUG ME(although I know what he’s implying).
Lyrics: “OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don’t need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker”

And the rest of the top ten includes(this is just the song titles):
Holy Grail, Hold On We’re Going Home, Applause, Summertime Sadness, and Safe and Sound.

Thanks for reading! Until Next Time,

Nicole
